But they do know, at least instinctively, that some people have a closer relationship with God in Christ than others. And also, many Protestant opinions are simply not carefully thought out, to their logical and theological conclusions. I agree with you that many difficulties in talking with Protestants come from vocabulary - our words have different meanings, and this leads to great difficulty in communication. With any theological question, we usually find a spectrum of Protestant opinions about it.Ī page on the Coming Home Network has an article on Catholic thoughts about this, including good scriptural references, history and Jewish background: (my opinon about Protestant belief, of course!) I see that (some) Lutherans do believe in levels of "glory" in heaven. Most, I think, do not believe in more than one "level" of heaven or salvation or holiness - all that who are "saved" are equivalent in every way. I did a quick check on Google for (in quotes) "lkevels of heaven" and "levels in heaven" and got quite a few links to many many Protestant opinions. IOW, is this a semantics game with purgatory? Levels of heaven? Do "good deeds" get you to a higher level (closer to God)? Are you at a place that is not quite "high" as God is, but you're not in Hell either. So I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this. It wasn't till later that I wondered what he meant by that (beyond an expression that he probably hears alot at To which I responded, I needed those deeds here on Earth, not in Heaven. For instance, I had to explain Lent to him.Īnyhoo, I eventually offer him a coke and he, in his overly theatrical-sweet-talking-self, thanks me profusely and adds that I can use this deed in heaven (or something along those lines). We've had occasions where we'll talk religion, too. He's kind of like the son I'll never have and we've have had some pretty personal talks (e.g., about his former life in Russia.he and his 2 siblings were adopted 5 yrs ago by my neighbors who are Fundamentalists.and I highly doubt he has had these conversations with his mother). Then by coincidence, later that day, the teenage boy next door came over.
Three levels of heaven tv#
I never knew that this was a belief of some Protestants (enough to make a TV show with the name?). Since my daughter's favorite show at the moment is "Seventh Heaven", I asked my co-worker if he thought there were 7 levels, with God in the 7th.to which he stated "he didn't think about it much, that's just what he believes!" (IOW, no help there). When I asked for clarification, he believes there are section in heaven with some sections being "more important" or "better" than others. my cross to bear.more so from early-learned prejudices rather than due to any kind of theological study he has done on his part), who one day last week made a comment about levels of heaven. So I have a Protestant co-worker (who leans towards anti-catholicism. I have a feeling this might be another one of those semantic games that get played (i.e., the essence of the meaning is the same.we get hung up in the linguistics) My question is not about Catholic teaching.but rather about what some Protestants think.
